The Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board in a statement on Tuesday protested at the alleged statement distributed under the banner of some officials and employees of the Palli Bidyut Samiti.
Regarding the leaflets, the BREB said that availability of offices, manpower, and vehicles was made according to specific policies in each Palli Bidyut Samity on the basis of customer connection with the aim of ensuring electricity service to the customers.
The necessary offices, manpower and vehicles are provided in the associations keeping in view the financial capacity, the statement said, adding that for repair and maintenance work, the goods were collected by the society itself and stored in the repair and maintenance store of the society.
In case of shortage of goods in the O and M store, the goods are provided continuously from the project store through the BREB as per the specific policy in order to continue the customer service, it added, mentioning that electricity distribution system damaged by flood was restored by supplying goods according to demand in past floods.
In the case of purchase of goods in the BREB, procurement is done through competitive tenders following the rules of PPR-2008. Specifications of almost all the goods are prepared as per international ANSI and the IEC standards. Goods are accepted after the quality is confirmed at the time of receipt, the statement mentioned.
Mentioning that at present 45,000 officers and employees are engaged in 80 Palli Bidyut Samiti, the BREB said, ‘Recruitment of manpower is considered as an ongoing process in an organisation as opposed to vacancies due to various reasons.’
The accidents that have taken place so far have been investigated and the main reasons behind most of the accidents are wrong shutdown, overconfidence and non-observance of necessary safety rules, the BREB said.
The statement also said that most of the rational demands of the PBS had been fulfilled by the REB, and several committees were continuing to verify only the remaining 2 claims.
‘Despite taking a number of initiatives for the officers and employees of PBS, some of them are disrupting the quality of customer service by holding meetings, distributing various leaflets, spreading disinformation through social media to collect demands outside the official discipline, which is tantamount to anti-state activities,’ the statement mentioned.
