The Dhaka Metropolitan Police detective branch on Thursday evening arrested former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder in the capital’s Bashundhara Residential Area while a Dhaka court placed former Awami League lawmaker Masuda Siddique Rozy on two-day remand in a murder case.

A Thakurgaon court on the day sent AL lawmaker for Thakurgaon-2 constituency Dabirul Islam to jail while a Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court sent former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan’s son Safi Muddaser Khan Jyoti to jail following remand.


Confirming Sadhan’s arrest, DMP additional deputy commissioner for media and public relations Obaidur Rahman Shamim said that DB team arrested Sadhan at about 9:00pm.

‘We cannot say right now he was arrested in which case,’ Shamim added.

Sadhan was wanted in a number of criminal cases that include the July-August student-led mass uprising.

Former MP Rozy was placed on a two-day remand in a case filed over the murder of one Sirajul Bepari in the capital’s Badda area on August 5.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Arifur Rahman passed the order as police produced Rozy before the court seeking her five-day remand in the case.

On Wednesday night, Masuda Siddique Rozy was arrested from her home in the capital’s Khilkhet area.

A Thakurgaon court on the day sent former AL lawmaker for Thakurgaon-2 constituency Dabirul to jail, ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· correspondent in the district reported. 

Thakurgaon chief judicial magistrate Rahima Khatun passed the order denying his bail application as he was accused in murder, extortion and land grabbing cases. 

Dabirul, a seven-time lawmaker, was arrested from an AL leader’s residence at Ruhea under Sadar upazila in Thakurgaon district.

Former home minister Kamal’s son Jyoti has been sent to jail in a case filed over the killing of garment worker Ashraful Islam in Ashulia area, state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha reported.

Dhaka additional judicial magistrate KM Mohiuddin passed the order as police produced Jyoti before the court after the end of his three-day remand in the case.

On September 29, Dhaka senior judicial magistrate Rabeya Begum placed him on three-day remand.

On September 14, Jyoti was arrested from the city’s Uttara area and was placed on four-day remand in an attempt to murder case filed with the Ashulia police station.

Meanwhile, a Dhaka court on Thursday showed former law minister Anisul Huq arrested in a case lodged over the murder of one Al Amin Hossain in the capital’s Badda area on August 5, said another BSS report.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Md Saiful Islam passed the order as police produced Anisul before the court and pleaded to show him arrested in the case filed with Badda police station.

The court later sent the former law minister back to jail.

Besides, police arrested Dhaka South City Corporation former ward-15 councilor Md Enamul Huq Abul and AL Rupnagar unit vice-president Gafur Mollah.
