Professor MA Muktadir in collaboration with two of his colleagues GMA Belayet Hossain and Rumana Rashid of the Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology have undertaken a research, seeking a solution of designing a hut for the rural poor, said a press release.
They will withstand the onslaught of flooding as well as storms keeping the inmates of the hut safe and sound, added the press release.
鈥榃e produced a prototype of the hut combining our initial thoughts and ideas and tested it at the House Building Research Institute of Mirpur in Dhaka in March, 2020,鈥� they said, adding that the results confirmed the inherent validity and strength of our concepts.
Subsequently, the preliminary design of the hut was developed further to improve its strength, stability and performance and to reduce its costs, they said.
The improved version of the hut had been built again in the vicinity of the 鈥楪olap Gram鈥� in Dhaka鈥檚 Savar area. This time the hut performed as expected and moved vertically up and down with the rise and the fall of the water level around it, keeping the floor of the hut above the water level all the time, the press release mentioned.
