Citizens’ forum ‘24-er Uttara’ on Friday handed over a list of 226 martyred, injured, missing people at Uttara in Dhaka in the student-led mass uprising to July Shaheed Smriti Foundation.
The forum listed that 28 people were killed, 197 were injured and one was missing in Uttara. There were 19 students among the martyred.
In a press conference at the Milestone College, the forum handed over the list to the foundation’s general secretary and martyred Mir Mugdho’s twin brother Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, said a press release.
Moderated by the forum’s member Luvana Tabachchum, Sohana Saki, Samia Rahman, Tahera Khadija, Samia Akhtar and Manisha Mafruha read a written speech at the press conference.
They said that the forum, comprised of parents from Uttara, compiled the list of martyred, injured or missing in the July uprising in Uttara.
People were mostly killed and injured by bullet hit between July 18 and August 5, they said.
The forum is campaigning in Uttarkhan and Dokkhinkhan, and it will publish a complete list soon.
Snigdho said that he would take steps to include the list in the government list after crosschecking.
The protests, which the students had held since July 1, flared into a mass uprising towards the end of the month, overthrowing the Awami League government on August 5.
The Directorate General of Health Services on September 24 came up with a preliminary list of 708 having died in the protests and subsequent uprising. The figure, however, could rise.
