
The founder and chief coordinator of the Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum, professor Habibullah Talukder Ruskin, was awarded the title of ‘Pink Man’ on Saturday.
On the occasion of the breast cancer awareness month, World Cancer Society Bangladesh at an event in the National Scout Building in Dhaka also gave a reception to the ‘Pink Man of Bangladesh’ Habibullah Talukder Ruskin, said a press release.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s chairperson’s adviser, Mohammad Abdus Salam, was present at the event, among others.
World Cancer Society Bangladesh President Syed Humayun Kabir chaired the event.
The speakers urged everyone, including the government, to give due attention to eradication and treatment of all types of cancer, including breast cancer, and to raise awareness about cancer in the country.
Habibullah Talukder is currently working as a professor and project coordinator at Gonoshasthaya Community Based Cancer Hospital after serving as a professor and head of the department of cancer epidemiology at National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital.
The Bangladesh Breast Cancer Awareness Forum has been organised under Habibullah’s initiative.
Since 2013, Breast Cancer Awareness Day has been celebrated unofficially.
Habibullah first organised a screening programme titled ‘Breast Cancer Service Week’ in 2004 at Lalmatia Oncology Centre. Since then, Bangladesh Cancer Foundation and Cancer Prevention and Research Centre continued to advance the programme.
The Breast Cancer Awareness Forum was formed in 2013 and currently has 47 local, national and international organisations as its members.
