
The tea workers of Mathiura Tea Garden of Rajnagar in Moulvibazar on Saturday held a rally demanding the payment of arrears of wages.
They held the rally with three-point demand in front of the garden office, presided over by a union parishad member of the upazila, Satya Narayan Naidu.
Muzahid Ahmad, former member secretary of Bangladesh Samajtanrik Dal in Moulvibazar district, central president of Tea Workers Federation Biplab Madraji Pashi, general secretary Dipankar Ghosh, member Maina Rajbhar, tea workers Lalon Rajbhar, Achia Begum, Kajli Rabidash, Lakshmi Naidu, Narayan Gaur, Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Moulvibazar district president Biswajit Nandi, among others, spoke at the rally.
Biplab Madraji said that time ultimatum had given for the payment of all dues, including outstanding wages and bonuses by Sunday. ‘If they fail to pay, tea workers will besiege the Rajnagar UNO office.’
The three-point demands of the tea workers include Mathiura tea estate workers to be paid unpaid wages immediately, and and fair dues including festival bonus must be paid before Durga Puja.
Dipankar Ghosh said that for the past seven weeks in Mathiura tea garden, the garden authorities had not paid the due wages of tea workers. ‘They have been making excuses by changing the date of payment.’
