The Anti-Corruption Commission on Tuesday decided to launch inquiries against four people, including Awami League government former railways minister and lawmaker Mujibul Haque, over allegations of abuse of power, and amassing illegal wealth through corruption.

The commission also decided to initiate an inquiry against former lawmaker AKM Bahauddilun Bahar for Cumilla 6 constituency and his daughter and Cumilla City Corporation mayor Tahsin Bahar Suchona, and Kamal Hossain, assistant personal secretary to the former minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.

The decisions were taken at the ACC headquarters to proceed with the enquiries after initial intelligence reports found evidence, said ACC deputy director for public relations Aktarul Islam.

There are allegations against former minister Mujibul Haque, also a former lawmaker from Cumilla 11 constituency and Bahauddilun and others that they amassed a huge amount of illegal wealth at home and abroad beyond known sources of incomes.

They were allegedly involved in corruption including recruitment business, tender manipulations and embezzlement of money from different government projects, said the allegations.

The ACC decided to start enquiries against about 100 lawmakers and ministers of the former AL government since fall of the government on August 5 amid a student-led mass uprising.
