
The death toll from the ongoing flash flooding climbed to 10 with rivers overflowing their banks receding.
The two new deaths were reported by the disaster management and relief ministry in Mymensingh.
The deceased are Anwar Hossain, 18, and Uzzal Miah, 32, who drowned.
The eight other deaths occurred in Sherpur district, the worst-affected area, home to poor farmers and hundreds of underprivileged national minority people. The deaths in Sherpur included two children.
A total of 63,171 people were still stranded in the flood, the ministry said, adding that 1,337 people are聽 still staying in flood shelters in Sherpur, Netrakona and Mymensingh districts.
The ongoing flood was triggered by days of very heavy rainfall in Bangladesh and India on October 4. The government distributed Tk 72 lakh in cash, 4,400 tonnes of rice, 7000 packets of dry food and Tk 15 lakh each for baby food and fodder.
The Jinjiram River was flowing 87 cm above its danger mark at Goalkanda in Jamalpur despite falling 12 cm in the 24 hours until 9:00am on Wednesday, the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre said.
The Someshwari River was flowing 15 cm above the danger mark on Wednesday morning after falling 13 cm over the same time period.聽聽聽
In next three days, the flood situation in lower areas adjacent to the Someshwari River in Netrakona and the Jinjiram River in Jamalpur district may improve, the FFWC predicted.
The Bangladesh Meteorological Department predicted light to moderate rain accompanied by temporary gusty wind at a few places over Dhaka, Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions and at one or two places over Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions.
The BMD said that the days would get increasingly drier after October 12.
The BMD said that the monsoon might complete withdrawing from Bangladesh over the next five days.
Bangladesh鈥檚 highest rainfall of 50mm in the 24 hours until 6:00am on Wednesday was recorded in Netrakona.
