
International Foundation for Electoral Systems country director Tanyel Bedia Taysi, and the United States Agency for International Development director Alena J Tansey and deputy director Blair King called on Dhaka University vice-chancellor Professor Niaz Ahmed Khan at his office on Thursday.
The DU pro-VC (administration) Professor Sayema Haque Bidisha, political science department chairperson Professor Nasima Khatun, and proctor Saifuddin Ahmed, among others faculty members, were present on the occasion, said a press release on Friday.
They discussed the possibilities of strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programmes among Dhaka University and different universities in the US.
They also discussed the possibilities of establishing a ‘Democracy Lab’ at the DU to create awareness among the students on human rights and democratic values.
They also stressed the need for undertaking more joint collaborative academic and training programmes on teaching methodology, human rights, crisis management, peace and harmony among the DU, USAID and the IFES to prepare the students as skilled human resources, added the press release.
Arranging workshop and summit with the participation of the DU students and the students of different institutions of the US were also discussed in the meeting.
They discussed the possibilities of formation of a task-force with the combination of the DU, USAID and the IFES representatives to strengthen joint collaborative programs.
Niaz Ahmed sought financial support from the USAID and IFES to provide scholarship for DU students and give incentive for their voluntary activities.
