
The police arrested four persons at separate places of Kurigram and Pirojpur districts for making offensive comments about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook.
United News of Bangladesh reported that police on Saturday arrested two individuals at Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram for posting offensive comments about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on social media.
The arrested are Shahin Alam, 30, resident of Phulbari Union鈥檚 Chakki village in Rajarhat, and Lavlu Mia, 29, resident of Mandoler Hat鈥檚 Byapari Para in Ulipur upazila, according to AKM Ohidunnabi, additional superintendent of Kurigram police.
According to Ohidunnabi, Shahin posted a derogatory comment about the Prophet (PBUH) on his Facebook account Saturday morning. The post quickly caught the attention of the district police. A special team, led by Md Mahfuzur Rahman, superintendent of Kurigram police, used technology to track down and arrest him.
Based on information provided by Shahin, the detective branch of local police then arrested Lavlu, who was also involved in the incident.
SP Mahfuzur Rahman said that investigations were ongoing to determine if others were involved. Legal proceedings were underway, and a case was being prepared to be filed at Rajarhat police station.
Meanwhile, police arrested two people at separate places in Pirojpur allegedly for making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on Facebook, another UNB report said.
The arrested are Rakibul Hasan, 22, son of Abul Kalam Molla and Saikat Mridha, 22, son of Sunil Krishna Mridha of Nazirpur upazila in the district.
Mukit Hasan, additional superintendent of Pirojpur police (crime and operation), said that they arrested Saikat at Narayanganj and Rakibul at Pirojpur on Friday.
A tense situation was created in their locality in Nazirpur upazila over making indecent comments about Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) on their Facebook pages, he said.
Following the Facebook posts, 12 Shibir activists went to the house of Saikat over the issue that spread panic among locals.
Later, a team of army rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
