
The Border Guard Bangladesh on Saturday halted the Indian Border Security Force鈥檚 attempts to fence the borderline with barbed wire within 20 yards of Indian border at Panchbibi upazila in Joypurhat district.
The international law does not allow constructing any such fence within 150 yards of the no man鈥檚 land.
But, the BSF was installing the barbed wire fence just 20 yards inside in India of the borderline near in Joypurhat at about 5:30am, the BGB officials said.
BGB held a flag meeting with its Indian counterpart at about 12:30pm and BSF assured that it will not construct any fence in the area, said a BGB press release issued by 20 BGB Battalion in Jaipurhat commander Lieutenant Colonel Nahid Newaz.
BGB press release said that BSF constructed fence with bamboo, iron rod, net and barbed wires.
