Home affairs adviser Lieutenant General (retired) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Monday said that about one thousand volunteers were appointed on a temporary basis to assist traffic police to help maintain the Dhaka Metropolitan Area traffic during the Traffic Pakkha-2024.

‘We have appointed one thousand volunteers on temporary basis with the help of sports and youth adviser Asif Mahmud Sajeeb Bhuiyan during the traffic pakkha to remove city traffic problems,’ said Jahangir addressing as chief guest while inaugurating the 15-day DMP Traffic Pakkha-2024 at Rajarbagh police Lines.


He hoped that observing the Traffic Pakkha-2024 would help to increase workforce and develop the desired traffic system, said a home ministry press release.

The DMP traffic fortnight will end on November 4.

Sports and youth adviser Asif Mahmud said that the interim government wanted to utilise the youth force.

‘We have told home adviser to use volunteers in traffic management and it is being implemented today,’ said Asif.

DMP additional commissioner for traffic Khondaker Nazmul Hassan told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that 1,000 volunteers

were appointed on a temporary basis and they were members of rover scouts.

‘We have divided it in two shifts — morning and day. Each shift will have 500 members. We will provide them transport allowances during the timeframe,’ said Nazmul.

At the Traffic Pakkha inauguration programme, chief adviser’s special assistant lieutenant general retired Abdul Hafiz and inspector general of police Mainul Islam and DMP commissioner Mainul Hassan, among others, spoke.
