A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Tuesday allowed the police to take former Juba League leader and ex-independent lawmaker for Habiganj-4, Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, in custody for five days for interrogation in a case filed over an attempt to murder Hridoy Miah during the anti-discrimination student movement on July 19.

The court of metropolitan magistrate Zakir Hossain passed the order as police produced him before the court seeking permission to take him in custody for聽 interrogation for 10 days in the case.


A joint team of Mirpur police station and Pallabi police station arrested the former lawmaker at about 1:20am in the capital鈥檚 Mirpur-6 area.

On September 23, the victim Hridoy Miah filed the case with Mirpur police station.

According to the case documents, Hridoy, who used to work as an assistant chef at a restaurant, joined the student protests on July 19 at Mirpur 10 and was attacked by Awami League activists.

At one point, Hridoy sustained bullet injuries, the case document said.
