The government on Wednesday formed a four-member task force comprising experts from different forces following the High Court鈥檚 directives to investigate the much-talked-about murder of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi.

The information was given in a circular of the home affairs ministry signed by Md Jahirul Haque, senior assistant secretary of the public security department of the political wing 2 of the ministry.

The Police Bureau of Investigation chief was made the convener of the task force.

The other members are one officer not below the position of additional deputy inspector general of police headquarters, one not below additional DIG of the Criminal Investigation Department and one not below the rank of director of the Rapid Action Battalion.

The circular said that the order would be effective immediately and the task force was directed to submit its report to the High Court Division in the next six months.

According to the circular of the home ministry, the task force was formed in accordance with the High Court order given following a writ petition regarding the investigation into the murder case.

Members of the force can co-opt members if required, the circular said.

Maasranga Television news editor Sagar Sarowar and his wife and ATN Bangla senior reporter Meherun Runi were found brutally murdered at their rented apartment in the capital鈥檚 West Rajabazar area on February 11, 2012.

RAB had been investigating the murder case filed by Runi鈥檚 brother Naushad Alam Roman.

On September 9, a metropolitan magistrate court in Dhaka fixed October 15 for submission of the probe report in the case of the double murder. Until now, the RAB missed 111 deadlines to submit the probe report.

Recently, the HC issued an order directing the authorities to conclude the long-pending investigation into the murders of journalist couple Sagar-Runi within six months.

The court also directed the home ministry to execute the decision after removing the RAB from the investigation and to form the task force with experienced investigation officials of different forces.
