The Students’ Movement Against Discrimination, the platform that spearheaded the student-led mass uprising, demanded withdrawal of the judge protesting at bail of the Awami League leaders arrested in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday afternoon.
The protesters held a rally in front of the Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge Court during the court proceedings.
The rally was held protesting against the bail of former organising secretary of the district Awami League, Masedul Haque Rashed, in three cases on Tuesday.
Apart from the students, pro-Bangladesh Nationalist Party and pro-Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami lawyers also spoke at the protest.
Demanding withdrawal of judge Munshi Abdul Majid, the district and sessions judge of Cox’s Bazar, the students and lawyers said that judges were still working in favour of fascism and granting bail to the attackers on the student movement.
The bail would rehabilitate the Al leaders and activists socially in a short time, they added.
President of Cox’s Bazar District Lawyers Association Abul Kalam Siddiqui said that Rashed was arrested in the three cases, but his name was not mentioned as an accused in those cases.
The prison authorities informed the court in writing that Rashed was seriously ill, Abul Kalam said, adding that considering Rashed’s illness, the court granted bail to him in this case and it was part of justice.
The authoritarian regime of Sheikh Hasina came to an end on August 5 amid a student-led mass uprising.
