A group of students went on hunger strike on Thursday demanding immediate arrest of identified attackers during the student-led mass uprising that forced Sheikh Hasina to resign and flee to India.
Dhaka University law department student Ashikur Rahman Jim began the hunger strike in front of the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture on the DU campus demanding arrest of identified attackers within one week.
Ashikur said that he would continue the hunger strike till the home affairs adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury assured them of immediate arrest of the assailants.
‘We have seen that many of the identified attackers during the student-led mass uprising have not been arrested yet,’ said Ashikur, adding that the attackers and the persons behind the attacks, responsible for killing over 1,500 people and injuring over 31,000 others, must be brought to justice.
Expressing dissatisfaction over progress of legal proceedings, he said that justice must not be delayed and the perpetrators must be brought to book immediately.
Expressing solidarity with the demand, some students of Dhaka University and other universities joined the hunger strike at noon after Ashikur had begun the hunger strike in the morning.
