A prisoner reportedly committed suicide in Brahmanbaria Jail on Thursday night.
The deceased is Md Jewel Mia, 34, a resident of Ashuganj.聽
He had been in the jail since 2020 for murdering his wife.
A policeman was suspended and a departmental case was initiated after the incident.聽
Acting superintendent of the jail, Md Ikramul Haque, said that Jewel Miah tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from a window net using a towel.
He was declared dead after being taken to hospital.
The jail superintendent said that a jail police member named Ripon Barua was suspended over the incident.
Besides, a departmental case was initiated against policemen Abdur Rashid and Uttam Kanti Barua, the official added.
