
A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Saturday placed former chief whip Abul Hasnat Abdullah鈥檚 son Moin Abdullah on a five-day remand for the allegation of killing Bangladesh Nationalist Party鈥檚 youth wing Juba Dal鈥檚 leader Shamim.
Court officials said that Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Ragib Noor passed the remand order as police produced him before the court seeking 10-day remand for interrogation in police custody.
According to the case documents, the BNP organised a grand rally on October 28, 2023. To foil the programme, the Awami League also called a grand rally in the capital.
At one stage, the AL activists, with the help of police, attacked the BNP鈥檚 rally at Naya Paltan, killing Shamim on the spot.
The case was filed with Paltan police station on September 24, 2024.
On Saturday, Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Moin Abdullah in the capital鈥檚 Gulshan area.
The DMP deputy commissioner for media and public relations Muhammad Talebur Rahman said that Moin was also accused in several cases in Barishal, including explosive.
