Indian police on Saturday handed over the body of a Bangladeshi citizen, who died inside the neighbouring country鈥檚 territory, to Bangladesh police.

The deceased Bangladeshi is Md Rizaul Karim, son of Abdus Sattar of Alinapara village in Sherpur Sadar upazila, according to the police.


The body of Rezaul was handed over to Bangladesh police at 1:00pm in the presence of Border Guard Bangladesh and Border Security Force members through the Bagmara LC of the 200 BSF Battalion, opposite to the Bijoypur BOP under the Netrakona Battalion.

Rezaul鈥檚 family members identified his body.

Commanding officer of 31 BGB lieutenant colonel ASM Quamruzzaman confirmed the matter.

A BGB press release, citing BSF sources, said that seven Bangladeshi nationals entered approximately 100-150 yards into India from the barbed wire near the border pillar 1138/4-S in Digalbagh area of Dhobaura upazila of Mymensingh, under the jurisdiction of 31 BGB鈥檚 Munshipara BOP, Thursday evening.

At that time, when BSF members patrolling the Damdama camp of 181 BSF Battalion challenged them, six of them were able to escape, but one fell from a culvert there, received head injuries and became unconscious and drowned in the water of the culvert.

BSF members rescued him immediately and admitted to the local primary health care centre, where he died on that day.

The autopsy of the deceased was completed in India.
