Chittagong Medical College and Hospital authorities expelled 75 students, including 14 intern doctors, due to involvement in disciplinary violations such as campus clashes and unauthorised student politics.
An additional 11 students received warnings and were released on a bond, according to CMCH officials.
The expulsion order, issued on Monday, specified suspensions ranging from six months to two years.
Of the 75 expelled, seven students received two-year suspensions, 15 were suspended for one year and six months, 39 for one year, and 14 for six months.
Many of those expelled were leaders and activists of the recently banned Bangladesh Chhatra League.
The decision, made at an academic council meeting on Sunday, was based on findings from a 12-member investigation committee formed around six weeks ago, said CMCH director brigadier general Mohammad Taslim Uddin.
He stated that based on the committee’s findings, these students had been expelled due to confirmed breaches of college discipline.
The expulsion letter stated that the disruptive behaviour of the accused students significantly impacted the college’s learning environment, with reported clashes on campus and within dormitories.
Despite a ban on student politics, the expelled students allegedly engaged in activities asserting dominance, individual heroism, and political displays, it added.
The letter further noted that disciplinary measures were taken in line with institutional rules, as evidence confirmed these students’ involvement in unauthorised dormitory entries, illegal room occupation, conduct breaches, campus disruptions, and assault incidents.
