
Two people who suffered burn injuries in a blast from accumulated gas from a leaked gas cylinder at a house in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district on October 25, died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday.
Three people, meanwhile, sustained burn injuries in an explosion from accumulated gas at an apartment in Dhaka’s Shyampur area on Tuesday.
The victims of the blast in Narayanganj, Mohamamd Sohel, 20 and Mohammad Ismail, 16, died while undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
The institute’s resident surgeon, Md Tariqul Islam, said that Sohel had sustained 70 per cent burns to his body while Ismail’s body had 55 per cent burns.
Earlier on October 25, a fire broke out in the house reportedly from accumulated gas from a leaked gas cylinder, leaving six people from the family injured.
Three people, meanwhile, sustained burn injuries in an explosion caused by accumulated gas in a seven-storey building in Dhaka’s Shyampur area.
The victims are Mohammad Tushar, 30, Mohammad jamal, 50, and Mohamamd Jamil, 24.
They were admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
Burn unit resident physician Tariqul said that Tushar sustained burns covering about 100 per cent of his body, while Jamal suffered 75 per cent of burns and Jamil had 55 per cent.
Tariqul also said that the condition of the three was critical as they have extensive burns.
Dipu Rahman, who brought the victims to the burn institute, said that a fire suddenly broke out in the room when they were lighting a cigarette with a gas lighter at about 2:30am on Tuesday.
‘Later, we rescued them and brought them to the SHNIBS,’ he added.
