
Bangladesh University Grants Commission on Thursday held an exchange of views with a seven-member delegation of the Korea International Cooperation Agency at the commission in Dhaka.
UGC members Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossen, UGC additional director Jesmin Pervin, among others, were present at the meeting.
Anwar Hossen said that the Korea International Cooperation Agency鈥檚 proposal will be considered for the introduction of PhD degrees in nursing education.聽
More attention should be paid to this sector to ensure the development of a better Bangladesh and better health care, he said, adding that the final decision would be taken regarding the PhD after talking to the concerned, including Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University.
He thinks that higher education and research opportunities should be increased in this sector in order to improve health services. If skilled nurses are produced, there will be wide employment opportunities in the country and abroad.
Most institutions offer diploma degrees in nursing. More attention should be given to national interest prioritisation and quality assurance in order to introduce PhD degree in any subject, Tanzimuddin Khan said.
Professor Thehuah Lee presented a survey report on nursing education and research and called for the introduction of a PhD degree in nursing in Bangladesh through the National Institute of Advanced Nursing Education and Research.聽
If PhD degree is awarded to nursing teachers, the education and research sector of this sector will be accelerated, he emphasised.
