The Asian Development Bank at a courtesy meeting in Dhaka with Bangladesh University Grants Commission chairman Professor SMA Faiz assured that the ADB would invest in research and development of the country鈥檚 agriculture and food technology sector, creation of skilled human resources, climate management and smart agriculture.

A five-year Strengthening Higher Education in Agriculture Project scheme has been taken up. The activities of the SATP project will start from next year with an estimated cost about Tk 2,300 crore, which will be jointly implemented by the UGC and Bangladesh Agricultural University.


In the meeting held at the UGC on Thursday, the UGC members Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and Professor Mohammad Anwar Hossen, and the ADB Bangladesh country director Hoe Yun Jeong, country operations head Na Won Kim, Ryotaro Hayashi and associate project analyst Md Moniruzzaman, and the BAU Professor Golam Hafiz, Professor Shamsul Alam Bhuya, Professor Harunur Rashid and Mohammad Shafiullah were present on the occasion.聽

Expecting the help of UGC and related parties for the successful implementation of the project, Hoe Yun Jeong said that the SATP project would strengthen the food and agriculture industry and create skilled human resources in Bangladesh.

SMA Faiz said that the proposed project would help Bangladesh in food security, climate management, food processing, smart agriculture and conducting advanced research, said a press release on Friday.
