Seventy more Bangladeshi nationals were repatriated on Monday from Lebanon amid Israeli invasion that killed nearly 3,000 people there, including a Bangladeshi in the past four months.

A total of 338 Bangladeshi migrants returned home from the war-torn west Asian country amid the ongoing conflict between Hezbollah and Israel.

A statement by the ministry of foreign affairs said that the group arrived in Dhaka on Monday morning.

The foreign ministry, the expatriates’ welfare ministry, the Bangladesh embassy in Beirut, and the International Organisation for Migration are jointly working to bring back the Bangladeshis.

The ministry noted that 338 Bangladeshis had now returned from Lebanon by seven flights. Several others are waiting for return.

The IOM provided each returnee with Tk 5,000 in pocket money, some food, and basic medical assistance.

The MOFA assured that the government would cover all costs associated with the repatriation of the Bangladeshi expatriates who wished to return due to the conflict in Lebanon.

The Bangladesh Embassy in Lebanon is working to also ensure the safety of those who chose to stay there.

A Bangladeshi was killed in the airstrike on Saturday and several others were injured in the conflict while several others allegedly remained missing.

The deceased was Mohammad Nizam Uddin, 31, son of late Mohammad Abdul Quddus of Khaira area of Kasba upazila in Brahmanbaria.

Nizam was staying in a coffee shop where the Israeli force attacked. This is the first reported case of death of a Bangladeshi in Israeli airstrike.

According to the media reports, at least 2,897 people have been killed and 13,150 wounded in Lebanon by Israeli attacks since October last year.

Officials said that a list of some 2,000 Bangladeshis got prepared to repatriate at the first phase.
