The Department of Environment on Tuesday conducted 15 mobile courts across the country to curb the production, sale, supply, and marketing of prohibited polythene.
The mobile courts fined 47 establishments realised Tk 1, 89,900, and seized some 4,044 kilogrammes of polythene, said a press release on Tuesday.
The DoE would continue such anti-pollution drives started on Friday, the release added.
On the first two days the DoE monitored markets and started crackdown on Sunday.
On Sunday, 746 kilogrammes of polythene shopping bags and a truck were seized, and fined 26 businesses Tk 1,80,500.
Earlier on September 19, environment, forest and climate change adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan announced drives against polythene bags at supermarkets from October 1 and from November 1 at all types of markets.
The environment adviser announced that the government would reward markets in the capital that would be free from polypropylene shopping bags by December 31.
In 2002, the government banned use of polythene but the law was hardly implemented.
The production, transport, marketing, and storage of polythene bags are strictly prohibited by law, but the law is being grossly violated across the country.
The adviser stressed the importance of using environment-friendly alternatives such as jute bags.
