Students on Thursday formed a human chain demanding removal of Feni deputy commissioner Musammat Shahina Akter, accusing her of being an ‘accomplice’ in killings during the anti-discrimination student movement in Feni.
Witness said that the students, under the banner of Revolutionary Students Society, formed a human chain and staged a demonstration on Trunk Road, near the Central Shaheed Minar in the Feni town.
Later, they also held a sit-in in front of the DC office where they also demanded that the DC be brought to justice.
The students have been holding demonstrations demanding removal of the DC since the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 amid a student-led mass uprising.
The protesting students said that although almost all deputy commissioners across the country were transferred following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government, Feni DC Shahina, despite being an ‘accomplice’ in the August 4 massacre during the movement, remained in her position.
They also alleged that the DC had not visited the families of those killed on August 4, nor had she inquired about the treatment of the injured.
Alleging that Shahina was a trusted confidante of former lawmaker and Feni district Awami League general secretary Nizam Uddin Hazari, they also said that Feni would see no progress if she was not removed.
On July 6, 2023, the then Awami League government appointed Shahina as the first female DC of Feni.
On August 4, nine students and civilians were killed, and several hundred were injured during the movement as a result of indiscriminate firing allegedly ordered by former lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazari.
