
An Ahmadiyya youth, who was injured on August 5, died while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital on Friday morning, struggling three months at hospitals.
The victim is Shahriar Rakeen, 16, a teenage member of Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama鈥檃t community, said a press release issued on Friday.
On August 5, shortly after the change of government, some religious extremists attacked the members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama鈥檃t in several places across the country, the release said.
In the afternoon, a mosque and over hundreds of houses and structures belong to Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama鈥檃t were attacked and 22 people were injured at Ahmadnagar in Panchagarh, the release added.聽
Shahriar Rakeen was severely beaten in the head with lethal weapons and was admitted to the local Panchagarh Government Hospital. Then he was shifted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital and finally to Dhaka on doctor鈥檚 advice.
He finally died on Friday at the National Institute of Neuro Sciences and Hospital after taking treatment also at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and LabAid Hospital.
The release said that there was no political involvement behind the attack and it was carried out by religious extremists in the absence of any administration or government at that time.
Ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5 and the Professor Muhammad Yunus-led interim government took oath on August 8 and the incident occurred during the vacuum of the government and absence of law enforcement agencies.
