The Dhaka University unit of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal, student wing of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, on Sunday staged demonstrations on the campus protesting at harassment of law adviser Asif Nazrul while he was on a visit to Switzerland.

The protesters also raised a three-point charter of demands including the demand for bringing those involved in the incident to book immediately.

Nazrul, also a law professor at Dhaka University, was reportedly harassed and subjected to degrading treatment by some unruly people on November 7 at Geneva International Airport while departing from an official visit to Switzerland.

The DU unit of the JCD gathered at Central Shaheed Minar at noon and brought out a procession that paraded different roads on the campus.

Speaking at a rally held after the procession at the base of the Anti-Terrorism Raju Memorial Sculpture, Ganesh Chandra Roy Shahos, president of the JCD DU unit, condemned the harassment of adviser Asif Nazrul, also adviser for cultural affairs ministry as well as expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry.

Shahos said that ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina was conspiring and giving false pretences to Awami League activists for counter-revolution after she fled to India following the student-led mass uprising on August 5.

Shahos alleged that Hasina carried out the harassment of Nazrul by her followers as part of the conspiracy.

Nahiduzzaman Shipon, general secretary of the JCD DU unit, said that the Awami League-backed student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League activists were involved in repressing and assaulting students in universities during the 15 years of the fascist regime.

He demanded the government to take steps to bring those involved in harassing Nazrul and assaulting students to book immediately.

Shipon said that the Awami League and Chhatra League seized rights of the people and students and established the fascist regime in the country.

‘Students will not allow the AL to establish the fascist regime again,’ said Shipon.

He also demanded immediate arrest of the BCL activists, who were involved in violence and accused in cases.

Besides, JCD DU unit senior vice-president Masum Billah, vice-president Khandakar Anisur Rahman Anik, senior joint general secretary Nasir Uddin Shaon, joint general secretary Shamim Akter Shuvo and organising secretary Nur Alom Bhuiya, among others, were present at the rally.
