A dismembered body of a woman was recovered from a nursery behind a restaurant at Birulia under Savar upazila in Dhaka district Monday night.
The deceased is Shantana, 36, a native of Dhamrai upazila of the district.
Shantana lived in a rented house in Dattapara area of Birulia with her husband Nayan Mia, a native of Mirzapur in Tangail.
Savar Model police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Jewel Mia said that police detained victim’s husband Nayan for interrogation over the matter.
On information, a team of police went to the scene, where a headless body was found at about 11:00pm on Monday, he said.
‘Upon arriving at the scene, police recovered the torso and later found the severed head and hands wrapped in a plastic bag about 150 yards away from the place where the body was found,’ OC Jewel said.
The body was sent to hospital for autopsy and the filing of a case in connection with the incident was under process, added the police official.
A video of the recovered body has been viral on social media platforms.
The women rights organisation, Bangladesh Mahila Parishad, in a statement on Tuesday condemned the incident and demanded putting the culprits to trial.
