
At least five people were killed in separate road accidents in Sherpur and Chapainawabganj on Wednesday.
Four people, including two siblings were killed in a head-on collision between a pickup van and a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Paishka Bypass area at Nakla in Sherpur, reported United News of Bangladesh
The deceased are Subina Begum, 20, a resident of Mymensingh, her younger brother Tajen Mia, 15, a resident of Sherpur, Tayera Begum, 10, a resident of Netrakona and Alauddin, 40, a resident of Phulpur.
Three other people, Umme Salma, 40, Tora Begum, 16, and Chabid, 3, were also injured in the collision.
They have been admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The accident took place when a pickup van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw collided at the Paiska Bypass intersection at about 12:00pm leaving two dead on the spot, said Habibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Nakla police station.
Another two injured died on the way to the hospital, he added.
In a separate road accident, a madrassah student was killed after a tractor crushed him in Bidirpur area of Chapainawabganj in the morning, reported Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
The deceased is Abdullah Al Osman, 13, a Class III student and a resident of Milki village in the Chapainawabganj municipality.
Chapainawabganj Sadar model police station officer-in-charge SM Zakaria confirmed the accident.
The police said that the accident took place in the area at about 9:50am when a sand-laden tractor hit Osman while he was going home from his madrassah riding his bicycle, leaving him dead on the spot.
On information, police recovered the body and sent it to the Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
