A group of students of Jahangirnagar University removed the portrait of country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman from the university’s administrative building on Thursday noon.
The group of students, led by a coordinator of the university chapter of Student Movement Against Discrimination Touhid Md Siam, entered the council room of the building and took down the picture at about 1:00pm.
‘We vowed to remove all portraits of Mujib from the campus as he initiated a fascist regime in the country,’ Touhid Siam said.
Terming Mujib as the forerunner of fascism in Bangladesh, he also said that Sheikh Hasina established a fascist regime following in his father’s footsteps.
The university administration refused to comment over the issue.
As per the article 4(A) of the country’s constitution, it  is mandatory for offices to keep portraits of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
On August 5, a student-led mass uprising ousted former prime minister Sheikh Hasina forcing her to flee to India.
