Politicians on Saturday at a discussion in Dhaka called on the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus to give the next general election as early as possible after carrying out required reforms.
Bhashani Onusari Parishad, a partner of the Ganatantra Mancha, organised the discussion meeting at Central Shaheed Minar to observe the 48th anniversary of the death of mass leader Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, where convener of the organisation Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu chaired.
At the discussion, Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the interim government should give the next general election as early as possible implementing some required reforms.
The main task of the interim government is to hold the next general election for democratic transition of the country and that the elected government would perform detail reforms of the ruling system and constitution, Mirza Fakhrul聽 said.
Chairman of Jatiya Party faction Mostafa Jamal Haider called on the interim government to give a roadmap of the next general election as early as possible.
Ganatantra Mancha coordinator and also president of Nagarik Oikya Mahmudur Rahman Manna said that the interim government failed to control price hikes of essential commodities and also failed to fulfil aspirations of the people.
Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq called on the political parties to forge a national unity so that no fascist political force could evolve again.
Ganosamhati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki also urged the political parties favouring the students and people movement to forge a unity to resist fascist political forces.
Sheikh Rafiqul Islam Bablu demanded constitutional recognition of Maulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani as a national leader.
Rastra Sanskar Andolan chief coordinator Hasnat Quaiyum said, 鈥榃e could follow the ideals of Maulana Bhashani for establishing rights of the common people.鈥�
BNP central leaders Abdus Salam, Zahir Uddin Swapon, Bhashani Onusari Parishad member secretary Abu Yusuf Selim and others spoke at the discussion.
