Family members and relatives of a Jubo League activist who was beaten to death on October 26 urged the government to ensure justice for the murder.

They formed a human chain in the Saheb Bazar zero-point area to press home their demand at about 11:00am on Sunday.

Addressing the human chain, Keya Begum, mother of deceased JL activist Md Mim, said that some local miscreants beat his son to death on October 26 over a previous feud.

‘It, however, was then circulated that Mim was beaten as he was against the student-led mass uprising,’ she alleged.

‘Those who have killed my son are known people, but the police are not arresting them,’ she alleged.

The speakers urged the government to arrest Mim’s killers immediately and ensure justice for the murder and safety of the deceased family.

On October 26, a group of 10 to 15 youths aged between 20 and 30 caught and beat Mim in the Sagarpara area in the city at about 7:30pm, suspecting that he was involved in the Awami league politics and attacked the student-led procession in Rajshahi on August 5.

Later, the youths forcibly picked Mim to a battery-powered rickshaw and then a battery-run three-wheeler, and took him to the Panchavati area where they beat him mercilessly.

Mim, who was left in front of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, was later pronounced dead by the doctor on duty at the hospital.

On the following day, Mim’s mother filed a murder case with the Boalia Model Police Station against 13 named and 8 to 10 unnamed people.
