At least six people, including a Bangladesh Rural Development Board official, were killed in separate road accidents in Tangail, Gopalganj and Satkhira on Tuesday.
At least four people were killed in a head-on collision between a bus and a pick-up van in front of Malauri Primary School on Tangail-Jamalpur regional highway at Modhupur upazila in Tangail Tuesday morning, reported Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
The deceased are Rabiul Islam, 28, son of Atar Ali from village Mohammadpur of Islampur upazila in Jamalpur, Baraillah, 42, son of Sadhu Mia of the same upazila, Pick-up driver Sujan Mia, 35 and Amjad Hossen, 28, son of helper Kashem Ali.
The accident took place in the area at about 5.30am as a Dhaka bound passenger bus of Binimoy Paribahan collided head-on with a Jamalpur bound pick-up coming from the opposite, killing two people on the spot, said Russel Ahmed, inspector (investigation) of Modhupur police station.
The other two seriously injured persons were declared dead on arrival at Modhupur upazila health complex.
Police seized the two vehicles.
In Gopalganj, a person was killed and another injured in a road accident at Bedgram circle on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in Sadar upazila, another BSS report said.
The deceased is Sadar upazila Bangladesh Rural Development Board chairman Nurul Islam Shikdar, 50, of Sonakur area of the town.
Quoting locals, police said that the accident occurred when a truck hit a motorcycle in the area leaving its passenger Nurul Islam dead on the spot.
Injured motorcycle rider Lablu Mia, 50, has been sent to Dhaka for better treatment.
In Satkhira, a person was killed in a road accident at Patkhelghata on the Khulna highway in Tala upazila, BSS reported further.
The deceased is Jafar Morol, 75, of Shkadaha village of the upazila.
Quoting locals, police said that the accident occurred when a Jashore-bound goods-laden truck hit a bicycle in the area, leaving Jafar critically injured.
Locals rescued and sent him to Satkhira Medical College Hospital, where the doctors declared him dead.
However, the driver of the truck managed to escape from the spot.
