An international symposium on disaster management was held at Dkaka Club in the capital on Tuesday.

The Community Initiative Society and Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster Management jointly organised the event titled Climate Change and Emergency Management Challenges for Asia Pacific: Towards a Disaster Resilience World.


The symposium was held targeting a strong position to tap and build upon multi-sector platforms in the region which is being jointly implemented by CIS and A-PADM, said a press release.

The symposium will cover a discussion on the importance of exploring the intersection of climate change and emergency management like shifting from risk to resilience and navigating climate crisis through innovative disaster strategies.

Ambassador of Japan to Bangladesh IWAMA Kiminori was present at the event as chief guest and discussed the collaborative contribution of Japan & Bangladesh government for disaster management and understanding of disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation to disaster prone communities.

CIS executive director Md Golam Mostofa and Management Office Asia Pacific Alliance for Disaster director and head Kaori Neki gave an overview of A-PAD activities on South-Asia region.

Among others CIS, A-PAD & DCHT chairman professor Quazi Quamruzzaman, Mercy Malaysia deputy executive director Mohd Hafiz Bin Mohd Amirrol, additional secretary  Md Sabirul Islam Biplob also spoke at the event.
