Graduation ceremonies of apprentice assistant superintendents of police and trainee sub-inspectors who were receiving basic training at the Bangladesh Police Academy at Sardah in Rajshahi were postponed on Tuesday, citing ‘unavoidable reasons’.
The graduation ceremonies of the apprentice ASPs under the 40th Bangladesh Civil Service and the trainee SIs under the 40th outside cadet batch were scheduled to be held on November 24 and 26 respectively.
A press release, signed by Mohiul Islam, additional deputy inspector general (training-1) of police headquarters, reads that the closing parade of 66 apprentice ASPs under the 38th and 40th BCS Police batches scheduled to be held on November 24 has been postponed due to unavoidable reasons.
Mohiul Islam told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they would fix a new date for the closing parade later and until then the training programme of the trainee ASPs would continue.
Earlier, the graduation ceremony of the apprentice ASPs was postponed, hours before it was scheduled to be held at the police academy on October 20.
The postponement of the closing ceremony of apprentice ASPs on October 19 came only two days after Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Salahuddin Ahmed at a press conference in Dhaka on October 17 demanded the cancellation of the appointment of over 800 sub-inspectors and 67 assistant superintendents of police, alleging that they were loyal to Awami League and that the AL regime had appointed them just before its fall.
Another press release, signed by Shahala Pervin, additional DIG (training-2) of police headquarters, meanwhile, reads that the graduation ceremony of the trainee SIs under the 40th outside cadet batch has been postponed due to unavoidable reasons.
‘The date and time of the training parade will be announced later. Until then, the training programme will continue,’ it further reads.
Earlier, after the fall of Awami League-led autocratic government on August 5 amid student-led mass uprising, a total of 313 out of 823 trainee SIs were discharged from the police academy in three phases reportedly for breaching discipline during various sessions of the training programme.
