The government on Wednesday appointed Baharul Alam as the new inspector general of police and Sheikh Mohhamad Sajjat Ali as the new commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

According to separate gazette notifications issued by public administration ministry, both of them were appointed on a two-year contract on the condition of severing all working relations with any other professions, businesses, government, semi-government and private organisations.


Baharul Alam will join as the 33rd IGP and Sajjat Ali as the 38th commissioner of the DMP.聽 Both are from the sixth batch (84-batch) of Bangladesh Civil Service examination.

Bahar served in various capacities in the police department at home and abroad and went on retirement in 2020.

Sheikh Sajjat Ali also served in various positions in the police department. He was sent to forced retirement in September 2016.
