Dhaka Metropolitan Police deputy commissioner for Uttara division Raunak Jahan on Wednesday revealed that a total of 77 muggers were arrested in the Uttara area in the past three months.
The Airport police arrested 123 muggers during the same duration, DC Raunak revealed at a press briefing at the DMP media centre on the Minto Road in the capital.
At the briefing, she said that Uttara West police station on Tuesday arrested two members of a mugging gang in connection with a case filed with the police station.
The arrested are Ashraful Haque Tushar and Rakib Hasan Arfin.
The police recovered US dollars, five mobile phones, some gold jewellery, and a sharp weapon used in mugging, said Uttara DC Raunak.
According to police, Md Shahidullah and his wife were mugged early Tuesday at Azampur bus stand in Uttara.
At that time, two miscreants with a sharp weapon stopped Shahidullah and his wife and snatched a bag from them.
Victim Shahidulla later filed the case with the Uttara West police station in this regard.
Later, the police identified the muggers with the help of CCTV footage and technology, police said.
