Law, justice and parliamentary affairs adviser Asif Nazrul on Thursday said that the provision of interim appeal was kept in the International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, to ensure fair trial and it would be used in very limited cases.

He said this while replying a question of a journalist after inspecting renovation works of the International Crimes Tribunal building.

Housing and public works adviser Adilur Rahman Khan accompanied the law adviser while engineers of the public works department and ICT prosecutors were present.

The council of advisers at its meeting on Wednesday, approved in principle the draft of ‘International Crimes (Tribunals) (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024’.

According to the law adviser, the government has amended the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973 as various quarters raised voice over different errors of the act while holding trials under the act during the regime of ousted fascist government.

‘As we want to hold fair trial following due process, the government took the initiative to amend the law,’ Asif Nazrul added.
