Left leaders on Friday at a discussion demanded holding general elections as early as possible for democratic transition in the country.

After the fall of the fascist rule of the Sheikh Hasina, a scope has been created for the democratic transition in the country and establishing rights of the ordinary people, they said.


Bangladesher Samyabadi Andolan organised the discussion meeting at Shishu Kalyan Parishad auditorium on Topkhana Road to mark the 107th anniversary of Russian Revolution.

Samyabadi Andolan coordinator Sudhangshu Chakrabartty presided over the programme conducted by central leader Monjurul Alam Mithu.

Communist Party of Bangladesh president Mohammad Shah Alam said that the left parties participated in the students-people movement in July and supported the interim government headed by Professor Muhammad Yunus.

Now we want democratic transition in the country through a free, fair and credible general election as early as possible, Shah Alam said.

Samyabadi Andolan central leader Belal Chowdhury said that the left parties should be united for democratic transition and establishing rights of the ordinary people of the country.

Revolutionary Communist League general secretary Iqbal Kabir Jahid said that the left parties should take part in the upcoming general elections for establishing voting and others democratic rights of the people.

Jatiya Mukti Council secretary Faiezul Hakim said that the left parties should continue its movements so that no fascist rule could be evolved like Awami League misrules.

Gono Mukti Union coordinator Nasir Uddin Nasu said, 鈥榃e must evaluate the recent students-people movement comparing with the other mass movements built up earlier in the country.
