Rail communications between Dhaka and rest of the country partially disrupted for around seven hours following the derailment of a wagon of a freight train in Azampur area in the capital on Monday.

Throughout the day, most of the trains to and from Dhaka ran late behind their respective schedules, said Bangladesh Railway officials.

Stranded passengers at different stations and in the trains suffered whole day as trains ran late.

Dhaka Railway Station master Md Anwar Hossain said that one wagon of the Chattogram-bound freight train derailed in Azampur area around 4:30am shortly after it had left the Kamalapur station.

Following the derailment, train movement on one line snapped immediately and trains to and from Dhaka were running on the other line, he continued.

Anwar also said that after a rescue train removed the wagon from the track, train movement on both lines resumed around 11:30am.

‘Almost all trains ran late on the day due to the derailment incident,’ he added.

On the day, Ekota Express on the Dhaka-Panchagarh route ran around five hours late and each of the Kalni Express on the Dhaka-Sylhet route and Silkcity Express on the Dhaka-Rajshahi route ran around two hours behind their respective schedules. Â
