A female entrepreneur in Chattogram filed a case against S Alam Group chairman Saiful Alam and his personal assistant, Akij Uddin, alleging embezzlement of Tk 29 crore.

Najme Nowroz, owner of the La Aristocracy restaurant in Chattogram, lodged the case with the Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Thursday.

Judge Md Abu Bakar Siddik of the court accepted her statement and directed the Criminal Investigation Department to investigate the matter, said the plaintiff鈥檚 lawyer, Subhankar Ghosh.

According to the case statement, Nowroz initially co-owned the restaurant with two other shareholders but later became the sole proprietor after acquiring their shares.

During this period, she developed a family relationship with S Alam, who subsequently extended a Tk 2 crore loan from the First Security Islami Bank鈥檚 Kazi Dewri Women鈥檚 Branch, owned by his group, to help expand her business.聽

S Alam later introduced Nowroz to his personal assistant, Akij Uddin, who facilitated loans totalling Tk 30 crore from the same bank in several installments between 2016 and 2021, under the guise of business investments.

The case claims that Akij embezzled Tk 29 crore through forged transactions, including blank cheques signed by Nowroz.

On July 22, Akij threatened to kill her and dump her body if she demanded repayment.
