
The prison authorities have started to deploy members of the dog squad for the first time as part of increasing security as well as to prevent entry of drugs and other illegal substances inside the jails.
Deputy inspector general (DIG-Dhaka Range) of prisons Md Jahangir Kabir said initially they have deployed two dogs at Dhaka Central Jail of Keraniganj and two dogs each at four central jails in Kashimpur of Gazipur district from Saturday but they have started their activities formally from today (Sunday).
Replying to a question, Jahangir Kabir said that they have deployed the members of the dog squad with the assistance of Bangladesh Army. Among the two dogs, one has been deployed at the RP gate, while the other one at the main gate of the central jail.
After completion of training in handling dogs from the Army, the Prisons authorities may consider deploying the members of the dog squad in other prisons in phases.
The training and other activities regarding the deployment of the dog squad will be conducted by the Bangladesh Army, he said.
