The Saudi embassy in Dhaka organised an opening ceremony of the food basket distribution and shelter construction for flood and cyclone victims in Bangladesh programme on Wednesday.

Under the programme, 6,195 food baskets will be distributed in two districts and 630 shelters will be constructed for the flood and cyclone victims in nine southern and south-eastern districts.


The programme is funded by the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSrelief), said a press release issued by the Sunbulah Welfare Association-Bangladesh.

The association is implementing this rehabilitation programme to ensure the SDGs in the flood and cyclone affected areas in Bangladesh.

The food baskets will be distributed in Noakhali and Feni districts while each of these will contain 10 kilogrammes of rice, seven kg of lentil, three litres of edible oil, one kg of salt, and three kg of sugar.

The shelters will be constructed in Noakhali, Feni, Cumilla, Lakshmipur, Bhola, Barguna, Patuakhali, Pirojpur and Bagerhat districts.

The programme was chaired by the Saudi ambassador to Bangladesh Issa bin Youssef Al-Duhailan while the Sunbulah Welfare Association of Bangladesh chairman and chief executive officer Mohammad Shakir Hossain was also present at the event, among others.

Issa bin Youssef Al-Duhailan said that the programme was an example of development partnership and mutual relationship with Bangladesh.
