Officials of the health and education cadres are planning to make louder their protests against the public administration reform commission’s proposals, including separating the health and education sectors from the Bangladesh Civil Service, in the coming weeks.

The reform commission chief, Abdul Muyeed Chowdhury, while talking to reporters on Tuesday, said that the commission would recommend individual service-oriented departments or commissions like the Judicial Service Commission, for the health and education sectors.

Umme Tania Nasrin, member secretary of the BCS Health Cadre Association, told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· on Thursday that the association was likely to convene a press conference on Sunday in the coming week to announce its next course of action in this connection.

On Wednesday, the association rejected the reform commission’s planned proposal, saying that the proposal, if implemented, would hamper the healthcare services and the health cadre officials would not be held responsible for any negative consequences.

The BSC General Education Association, a nationwide platform for the government college teachers or education cadre officials, protested against the reform commission’s planned proposal in a similar tone.

The association’s acting president Md Sirajul Islam said that representatives of the association would meet the adviser to the education ministry in the coming week to discuss the issue in person.

‘We will initially try to understand the government’s perspective and convey our demands. If that does not work, we will hold discussions among ourselves and announce the next course of action,’ Sirajul said.

According to the related associations, there are about 35,000 health cadre officials and 16,000 education cadre officials in Bangladesh.
