At least three robbery incidents took place on bus and private cars in Ashulia and Savar on the outskirts of Dhaka city between Friday late evening and early Saturday. 

The police visited all the spots and said that efforts were underway to detain the perpetrators.


In Savar, three robbers, travelling on a bus in disguise as passengers, attacked fellow passengers with knives on Dhaka-Aricha Highway at about 7:00pm on Friday.

A passenger was injured in the incident and later was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar, said Shahinur Kabir, additional deputy commissioner of Savar circle.

The muggers got off the bus in front of the BPTC gate of Jahangirnagar University and fled the scene.

Savar police officer-in-charge Juel Mia said that bus driver Sankar Saha filed a case with the police station on Saturday.

At Ashulia, a minibus carrying a wedding party was attacked by robbers on Bangabandhu Road beside Palmal Garment at about 2:00am on Saturday.

When the vehicle reached near Palmal Garments from Mymensingh, a group of armed robbers blocked the vehicle by felling trees on the road and launched an attack, United News of Bangladesh reported quoting victims.

The robbers snatched cash and mobile phones from the victims, the UNB report said.

Ashulia police officer-in-charge Abu Bakar told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that they had visited the spot but found no evidence. 

‘I think the incident occurred before they reached Ashulia We are investigating,’ the officer added. 

In another incident at Ashulia, robbers looted over Tk 1 lakh and mobile phones by halting a running private car in Kathgara-Tongibari regional highway on Friday at about 9:30pm.

Three to four robbers with locally made arms halted the speedy car going to Mirpur from Sirajganj.

Ashulia officer-in-charge Abu Bakar said that they were trying to arrest the attackers.

‘The process for filing a case is underway,’ he added.
