Azibul Haque Partha, a member of the central convening committee of the National Revolutionary Council, a political party formed by students involved in the July-August mass uprising, was injured after he was stabbed allegedly by two muggers early Sunday.
Partha told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ· that the incident took place at about 7:00am on Sunday while he was walking near the lake adjacent to Road 32 at Dhanmondi in the capital.
‘I was walking in the area when two muggers came running towards me. At that time, one of them stabbed me in the hand and ran away,’ he said, adding that muggers could not take away any belongings from him.
He was later taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, Partha said.
He could not go to the police station to lodge a complaint immediately, he said, adding that he was planning to lodge the complaint soon.
The National Revolutionary Council, meanwhile, expressed concern over the incident demanding a thorough investigation into the incident and bringing the perpetrators to book.
Mohammad Hasan Arif, member secretary to the National Revolutionary Council, issued the statement where he urged law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to ensure public safety and prevent such crimes.
The statement also highlighted the growing frequency of robbery-related incidents in Dhaka city that not only involved theft but also resulted in injuries and fatalities.
