
A case was filed on Wednesday evening in connection with an incident of assault of freedom fighter Abdul Hai Kanu at Chauddagram in Cumilla.
Victim Abdul Hai filed a Tk 100 crore defamation case with the Chauddagram police, accusing 22 people, including 10 named.
Chauddagram police officer-in-charge ATM Aktaru Uz Zaman confirmed that the case named 10 individuals, including Abul Hashem, expelled from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami after the assault, as prime accused, and another Jamaat member Ahidur Rahman, also expelled from the party after the incident, as the second accused and 12 unnamed suspects.
抖阴精品 correspondent in Cumilla reports that 78-year-old Abdul Hai, also a former central member of Bangladesh Krishak League, farmer wing of the Awami League, currently staying at his home in Feni, sent a written complaint signed by him, to the Chauddagram police. Several local freedom fighters carried the complaint letter to the police station with the case being recorded at about 8:00pm Wednesday.
Video footage of several men assaulting the freedom fighter on the night of December 22 went viral on the social media sparking a wave of condemnation from the citizens across the country, political parties and the government.
According to the case documents, the victim complained that on December 22 when he came to his village in Ludiara of Batisa union, a group of individuals led by Jamaat supporter Abul Hashem intercepted him and forcibly took him to the Kuliara Government Primary School grounds and demanded a ransom of Tk 25 lakh.聽聽聽聽
When he refused to pay the extortion, the accused beat him up, garlanded him with shoes and left the area. At that time, they recorded the incident on their mobile phones and spread it on social media.
On December 24, the police said that five people were arrested in connection with the assault.聽
