Home adviser retired lieutenant general Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Tuesday urged all members of the Border Gurad Bangladesh not to give in to opponents on the border.
‘I urge all of you [ BGB members] not to be cowed by opponents in any situation,’ said Jahangir while addressing the oath-taking ceremony of BGB 102 recruit batch and concluding parade at Border Guard Training Centre and College at Satkania in Chattogram as chief guest.
Jahangir believed that BGB members would sacrifice lives but would not spare an inch of land of the country.
He said that the paramilitary force was protecting 4,427 kilometres of borders around the country.
A total of 695 new soldiers were recruited to the 102 batch, including 649 males and 46 females.
BGB director general Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui and inspector general of police Baharul Alam, among others, were present at the event.
Responding to reporters after the programme, home adviser Jahangir said that the borders were still in Bangladesh’s control and there was nothing to worry about.
‘We have to face difficulties as we have to maintain contact with the Arakan Army and the Myanmar government. The army has taken control of areas near the Bangladesh border along Myanmar and this is why we could not hold flag meetings with the Myanmar government,’ he added.
He acknowledged that Bangladesh could not bring the border killing to zero.
‘The BSF [Indian Border Security Force] did not conduct the two recent border killings,’ he claimed.
He said that recent two killings along the border were the result of infighting among Khasias as the community lived on both sides of the India and Bangladesh border.
Md Nayeem Mondal became the best recruit in the 102 batch.
‘All of my batchmates are the best. I am honoured to be the best of all,’ said Nayeem.
