Eight more trainee sub-inspectors who had been receiving basic training at Bangladesh Police Academy in Rajshahi’s Sardah for the past fourteen months were discharged from the academy on Thursday night.

‘The academy authorities gave us letters at around 7:30pm on Wednesday and verbally asked us to leave the academy by 9:00pm,’ one of the eight discharged trainee SIs preferring anonymity told ¶¶Òõ¾«Æ·.

‘We have been dismissed based on false allegations,’ he added.

Bangladesh Police Academy principal additional inspector general of police Md Masudur Rahman Bhuiyan, however, could not be reached for his comments despite repeated attempts over the phone.

Earlier, the academy authorities served show-cause notices on each of the eight trainee SIs on December 28 asking explanations for ‘shouting and creating chaos’ during a game parade at the academy on December 27.

Including the latest, after the fall of Awami League-led autocratic government on August 5 amid student-led mass uprising, a total of 321 out 823 trainee SIs were discharged from the police academy for breaching discipline during various sessions of the training programmes.
